This striking vintage 1960’s Chinese stoneware baluster vase showcases a magnificent example of mid-century Yao Bian kiln-transmutation artistry, heavily inspired by the celebrated imperial oxblood glazes of the historic Qing Dynasty. The elegant silhouette features a classic baluster body that gently tapers to a flared, trumpet-style rim, all blanketed in a rich, deeply saturated sang de boeuf red glaze. At the shoulder and along the collar, the copper-rich glaze beautifully yields to a dramatic, mottled white and cream frothy effect, creating a highly textured and dynamic visual flow down the vessel. The underside reveals an unglazed, hand-turned recessed base displaying a clean wheel spiral and a smooth, fires-orange clay foot ring that beautifully highlights its authentic studio construction. This substantial 12-inch statement piece offers exceptional potential as a sophisticated cultural accent for eclectic, Hollywood Regency, or modern Asian-inspired decor, standing out beautifully as a standalone focal point on a mantle, an entryway console, or within a brightly lit curio display.
