This exquisite matching pair of European late 19th century French Victorian bisque porcelain figurines, crafted by the renowned makers Mauger & Fils, captures a young peasant boy and girl from the 1800’s in charming, rustic attire. The boy features a classically expressive face framed by a draped cap, wearing meticulously detailed hand-striped trousers, a collared smock, and rustic clogs while casually resting a bundle or gathered sack over his shoulder. His companion is elegantly depicted in a traditional draped headscarf (fichu) and a soft, flowing floral-patterned apron-skirt, carefully holding a detailed street musical instrument resembling a hurdy-gurdy. Both figures stand on naturalistic mound bases designed to mimic earthy terrain, showcasing a muted, unglazed matte finish and displaying soft hand-painted pastel tones accented by delicate gold gilt trim along their clothing edges. Adding significant value and historical authenticity for collectors, both pieces beautifully retain the authentic impressed oval "M&F" manufacturer's mark alongside the matching incised mold number 652 on the underside of their unglazed bases.
