Dating to the mid 19th century, this substantial American Victorian foundry or architectural pattern block is an exceptional piece of historical industrial craftsmanship. Hand-carved from solid black walnut, the block features a recessed central panel deeply sculpted with ornate Rococo Revival motifs, including acanthus leaf flourishes, sweeping scrolls, and a fine lattice cross-hatch ground. The side of the block retains its original hand-painted inventory and catalog numbering ("4304B") over an aged gesso ground, while the reverse displays matching hand-drawn pencil studio notations. Originally utilized to produce cast iron, plaster, or composition decorative architectural trim elements, this heavy wooden block preserves its original dark, rich patina and authentic workshop wear. It stands as a compelling architectural salvage display piece for collectors of antique foundry patterns, woodcarvings, and Victorian decorative arts.
