Dating to the late 1960’s, this authentic vintage wool felt "dinky" or skull cap captures a vibrant piece of mid-century Americana and custom novelty apparel history. The hat features a classic multi-panel segmented design crafted from deep navy blue felt, accented by structured contrast stitching along the seams and rim. Prominently displayed on the front panel are bold, crisp white chain-stitch embroidered initials spelling "SMM", showcasing the traditional craftsmanship of the era. Turning the cap inside out reveals a remarkably well-preserved blue ink maker's stamp from American Knitwear and Emblem Mfrs. located in Plaistow, New Hampshire, complete with a detailed bald eagle graphic framed by a ring of patriotic stars.
