This serene vintage 1970’s Chinese celadon porcelain sculpture depicts Shou Lao, the revered Taoist deity symbolizing longevity, wisdom, and good fortune, standing graciously alongside a young attendant child. Expertly molded with exceptional expressive detailing, the deity is rendered in a translucent sage-green celadon glaze that features a delicate, subtle underglaze crackle finish, highlighting the fluid drapery of his layered traditional robes, his distinctively high dome-shaped forehead, and his long flowing beard. Shou Lao holds his iconic rustic wooden staff, while the small child standing at his side holds a fish—a classic traditional symbol representing abundance, wealth, and continuous prosperity in Chinese folklore.
