Discover the profound evolution and modern mastery of East Asian design with this authoritative hardcover volume, "Contemporary Japanese Architecture: Its Development and Challenge" by renowned architectural scholar Botond Bognar, featuring a foreword by legendary architect Arata Isozaki. Published in 1985 by Van Nostrand Reinhold, this comprehensive first-edition study bridges the gap between historical Japanese traditions—such as Shinto, Buddhism, and domestic spatial concepts—and the radical innovations of the post-war and late 20th century Modern movements. This exceptional copy is hand-signed and inscribed by the author, Botond Bognar, directly on the front flyleaf ("To Richard with my best regards, Nov 16 1987"). Lavishly illustrated with hundreds of sharp architectural photographs, aerial views, site plans, and interior details showcasing works by masters like Tadao Ando, Kisho Kurokawa, and Kenzo Tange, this large-format hardcover volume comes complete with its original pictorial dust jacket. An indispensable, highly collectible treasure for architectural historians, modern design aficionados, and collectors of signed academic monographs.
