This fine vintage Mid-20th Century (Showa Period) Japanese studio art pottery figure depicts a young boy kneeling (chokkin) in traditional attire, serving as a classic example of post-war Oriental figurative ceramic art. Crafted from dense stoneware, the piece is coated in a soft, pale sea-green celadon glaze featuring an intentional, closely-knit crackle matrix (kanyu) throughout, adding depth and structural nuance to the smooth finish. The child's kimono is decorated with an incised Kasuri (井 / I) repeating grid pattern across the fabric, faithfully replicating the look of traditional Japanese hand-woven, tie-dyed folk textiles worn in rural regions. Accentuated by finely molded features—including stylized hair, subtle facial expressions, and draped sleeve folds—the sculpture carries strong visual presence from every angle. The lower rear hem of the robe preserves dual impressed maker’s seals stamped directly into the wet clay prior to firing: a circular Yatsushiro (八代) artist seal on the left indicating its stylistic lineage or artisan origin, alongside a traditional mountain-roof kiln house mark (Gama-jirushi) on the right identifying the specific decorating studio or workshop.
